CONNECTIONS BLOG

CONNECTIONS
Affinity. Closeness. Longing for connection. These shared experiences are what elevate our lives beyond mere existence. Good or bad, they are the muse for poetry, the rhythm of music, and the ‘heart’ in our heart. This body of work is about exploring just that: our humanity seen through how we connect with something outside ourselves. That moment when we bare our souls and open our hearts.

The Eye Of The Beholder

The International Color Awards are always an interesting mix of images. I’m chuffed to say I won 2nd place in the Merit of Excellence in the People category. Yippee!

Beach Side Qingdao

The entries for the Colour Awards come from 79 countries across the globe so as they say at the Oscars, "its an honour to be nominated."  I'm excited to share that I received 7 nominations across 4 categories, the details are below. Its always difficult to predict what the judges are looking for so the selection of what to enter is sometimes half the battle.

Dive In

Come dive with me into the warm Pacific. It is so beautiful starting the day with a salt water champagne bath this time of year. A weekend morning swim, followed up by breakfast at the beach makes me smile for the rest of the day!

Lounging Around The Boat House

One of the best perks of living in Sydney is going to a beach in the morning for a swim and then breakfast. The Boat House in Balmoral is a fave.  A sister restaurant to one in Palm Beach, and soon to be Shelley Beach; it celebrates the summer lifestyle with fresh produce, coffee and an interesting menu. You will know we are there if you see Samson, our Golden Retriever tied up out the front!

Immersion

How amazing does it feel to swim in the ocean in the morning?! The sun streaming in, the water feeling like it is rejuvenating our every molecule! It leaves me smiling all day long! These pictures were taken early morning at Bronte recently. On a day like today, I'm plotting when I can next slip under the waves. 2015_01_0Y4A14782015_01_0Y4A16012015_01_0Y4A20992015_01_0Y4A2203

The Bold and Beautiful

There is nothing like a crisp sunny morning swim to get the day started. I went for a quick one Sunday morning in the warm water of Manly. At 7am there you will find a multitude of people all wearing bright pink caps, preparing themselves to dive head first into crystal clear water for a 1.5km swim. What started as an informal activity between a group of friends, has now turned into hundreds of people every day. The group, know as the 'Bold & Beautiful' leave from Manly Beach and swim over to Shelly Beach. The wonderful thing about this group is the camaraderie that they share. They wait at Shelly Beach until the last swimmer has arrived before embarking on the return trip.

So I'm thinking I should get a pink swimming cap on and join in... Will I see you there?

Afoot and light-hearted, I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.

A hidden treasure

Here's a pic from a gorgeous morning at Bilgola Beach a few weeks ago. Hopefully this brightens up your morning.  It was such a nice way to start the day,  swimming in the warm water. By chance, I shared the dawn with a film crew filming Jamie Durie surfing.  I was working with them on the same shoot a few days earlier and they were shooting the final takes. bilgola_discovery

Speaking of beaches, I was pretty happy to discover that I was nominated in the Abstract, and Fine Art categories in the International Colour Awards for two of my seascapes. Lots of great photography there, so have a look.

Sizzling Summer

What do Sydneysider do on a hot day to beat the heat? Its simple, we run for our sandy beaches. We complained last year that we didn't have a summer well the gods are making up for it this year, well and truly.  These shots were taken on Curl Curl Beach for a Suncorp campaign Natasha Lorenzen and I shot for Alice Bradbury at Asteron. I feel a little cooler looking at them.

A big thanks to our models Julie and Craig Tucker and Juliet and Gianni Pannozzo.

Dawn of the day

Another beautiful morning down at Balmoral. I love observing the passing parade and everyone's morning routines.  At first I couldn't tell whether my new friend Geoff was feeding the seagulls or the fish, turns out it was the fish. It was a gorgeous spectacle.  We had a bit of a chat, swapped life stories and then both headed off to work. Life is what you make it.

Thank you

A big thank you to everyone who came down to support me at the Sydney Art Show.  It was inspiring to be surrounded by so many talented folk and to get such positive feedback. My calming romantic seascapes generated a-lot of interest, and a few sales. Drop into the studio if you want to see the collection first hand! The large artworks really create a mood in the room.

Your Beautiful Soul

Come see my latest collection of work, Your Beautiful Soul at Art Sydney this weekend. I have 2 free tickets to send to the first person to email me, christian@mushenko.com.au.

Show is open 10-4:30, October 14-16

Would love to see you there!

A collection of lush seascapes that mirror the drama and emotion of the human spirit. The ocean and sky are the canvas in abstract works of texture and colour that remind us of our vulnerability and belief, love and longing, life and a beautiful soul.

I'm excited to announce that I've published my first ever book to go along with the collection.  Take a look here. I'd love to know what you think.

Morning Glory

Last Thursday morning I was down at the beach to soak up some sun, and sparkle. Seems like a long time ago now with the current weather! Anyways the sun was having fun chasing the edge of the water, like love sick puppy!
