CONNECTIONS BLOG

CONNECTIONS
Affinity. Closeness. Longing for connection. These shared experiences are what elevate our lives beyond mere existence. Good or bad, they are the muse for poetry, the rhythm of music, and the ‘heart’ in our heart. This body of work is about exploring just that: our humanity seen through how we connect with something outside ourselves. That moment when we bare our souls and open our hearts.

Thank you

exhibition2 Thank you to everyone who attended the opening of Longing at the ARTHouse Hotel. It was a fantastic night and it meant a lot to me to see your supportive and smiling faces.  Apologies if I didn't get to speak to you! And a big thank you to HeadOn and the efforts of The ARTHouse Hotel.

The exhibition is up in the Gallery Bar till July 13th, so I hope I can buy you a drink there before then.

20% of proceeds will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House, with Triple J news presenter, Ange Lavoipierre giving an insightful speech on the night about dealing with leukemia as a teenager and talked about the support that the Ronald McDonald House gave her.

In other Head On news the Add On Exhibition  recently opened, the concept was very unusual.... 131 untitled, unnamed, uniformly sized photographs all on display.

photo-1One of my images was included which was very timely as it was this image that originally sparked my concept for the Longing exhibition. Thanks to Angela Mushenko for the pictures from the night.

Longing references a quiet drama present in the photographs. The images portray a light beyond darkness, a release into something beyond. Created without a lens, the images are not a ‘focused’ view of the world, but a more basic response to light, and become abstract colour field images. This 'lack of focus' removes us from the actual subject in front of us. Instead it hints at the mysterious, often unclear vision of our futures, made up of our internal desires and a longing for what we don't have.

The exhibition will donate 20% of its proceeds to Ronald McDonald House Charities.   Date - 13 May 2013,  6-8pm at the Sydney’s ArtHouse Hotel Gallery Bar.
