CONNECTIONS BLOG

CONNECTIONS
Affinity. Closeness. Longing for connection. These shared experiences are what elevate our lives beyond mere existence. Good or bad, they are the muse for poetry, the rhythm of music, and the ‘heart’ in our heart. This body of work is about exploring just that: our humanity seen through how we connect with something outside ourselves. That moment when we bare our souls and open our hearts.

What makes a (Shanghai) home?

What makes a home or a community? The people, shared interests, the neighbourhood?

On a recent visit to Shanghai I wandered around an area being demolished to make way for new high-rise apartments. Buildings were left in various states of demolition, remnants of life still evident amongst graffiti, and even people still living in some areas.

An eerie beauty presided over the buildings left behind. Perhaps this was due to the infused memories of life, love and the dramas that they have seen.

A Steamy Night in Singapore

lanterns

What better way to spend a steamy night in Singapore than wandering Chinatown enjoying the colour, shopping and food! Our recent shoot with models Nadia and Greg captured a bit of that fun and I can vouch that the drinks and food weren’t bad either.

Shanghai Charm

I had fun buzzing around Shanghai on my last trip, shooting some lifestyle pics depicting a romantic day for a young couple. I think we got some lovely moments.

I love Shanghai as it is so varied! From the old charm of the French Concession to the futuristic modernity and ultra premium feel of hotels in the Pudong. There is something interesting around each corner!

I think I’ll have to stay in the Ritz Carlton next trip, and have a more relaxed drink in their rooftop bar, Flair. It is pretty amazing!

Laneways and Laneways

As I started to walk through a lane-way in Old Shanghai, I couldn't help myself but to turn a corner and follow the path of a different one. Should I go up a staircase and find a colourful mystery awaiting me? Turn the corner and see people just living their everyday life. Watch my head as I have to duck under the very low overhanging awnings. I wonder what stories are being told here today? AC8P6031AC8P5625AC8P6103AC8P6129AC8P6025

Markets, Noodles and Organized Chaos

I'm heading to Asia today. Looking forward to meeting lots of new agency creatives, eating lots of food and absorbing myself in the atmosphere. I wonder what I will find as I get lost going down various lane ways?! _AC8P9321_AC8P9344 _AC8P9469

to market, to market

Our shoot in Singapore is now over and I'm now well and truly in holiday mode. Time to immerse ourselves in the culture, smells, vibrancy and flavours of the local markets.  My wife Angela lived in Singapore as a child, so I'm gladly in her hands when she takes us to Lau Pa Sat markets. market Places like this are so inspiring. Simple food, done so effortlessly but so tasty. I feel so much more at home too, being where the locals eat, and trying something exotic. Well maybe not TOO exotic! So what do ya reckon guys, will you let me experiment in the kitchen when back home, or are some of my previous concoctions still burnt on your memory?!! (And I still think red Thai curry and blueberries is going to be the next big thing! You heard it here first ;-)  ) markets2

Singapore Sling at Raffles and such

I'm away travelling at the moment and started my trip with a jaunt in Singapore. I stayed at the famous and incredibly luxurious Raffles hotel. Wow I highly recommend staying here, even if its only for a night, it was definitely an experience. I was actually working on this part of the trip so it wasn't all cocktails and shopping, you can see more of the hotel in my behind the scene shots below and also take a look at their beautifully shot video of the hotel, here. I was sold the moment I watched it.
